US IT companies fired 94,000 employees in six months due to AI
In the first half of 2025, American IT companies fired more than 94,000 technical specialists. This is not just cost-cutting. This is structural change under the influence of artificial intelligence.
Microsoft confirmed plans to cut 9,000 employees. Google fired a quarter of the smart TV team, increasing funding for Bard and Gemini AI. Bumble announced reducing 30% of global staff. In favor of developing artificial intelligence-based products.
At the same time, companies are showing record revenues. Microsoft reported first quarter revenue of $70 billion – 13% more than last year. And simultaneously cut 15,000 employees.
Analysts identify 3 main trends. Artificial intelligence replaces repetitive tasks. Companies redirect budgets from traditional areas to artificial intelligence. New tools allow fewer people to do more work.
Cuts primarily affect junior programmers, HR staff, support employees, copywriters, data analysts and middle management. In Silicon Valley alone, 11,000 jobs disappeared.
