SpaceX is making an unexpected turn in its technological strategy. Elon Musk’s company has opened vacancies for software engineers in artificial intelligence. Forming a team that will tackle the most complex data processing tasks for launch vehicles and spacecraft.
According to the announcement, the space company is looking for specialists in computer science, data science, engineering, mathematics or physics. Interestingly, higher education is not a mandatory requirement. Candidates with 4 years of professional experience in software development will also be considered.
Notably, experience in the aerospace industry is not among the mandatory requirements. However, applicants must have at least 1 year of practice in developing software for artificial intelligence, full development cycles and data analysis.
The company offers impressive compensation. Software engineers will receive up to $170,000 annually, not including bonuses, stock options and other forms of compensation.
This step looks particularly interesting against the backdrop of Musk’s statements last year. At the Milken Institute conference last year, he claimed that SpaceX and Starlink “practically don’t use artificial intelligence”. And the company “simply hasn’t found application for it” in the space sector.
